Editor’s note: Families often want a roadmap. This is the high-level flow we use to keep teens engaged and moving forward.
The structure
Kin’s virtual teen IOP runs 8 weeks, 3 days per week, 3 hours per day after school (typically 4-7 PM). Teens are in small groups of 6-8 peers, with CBT and DBT skills, plus weekly individual therapy.
Weeks 1-2: Foundation
- Intake and goal setting
- Building comfort in a small peer group
- Learning core coping skills
Weeks 3-4: Skill building
- Practice CBT and DBT tools in real situations
- Identify triggers and patterns
- Strengthen peer support
Weeks 5-6: Applying skills
- Use skills in the moments that matter
- Increase family communication and accountability
- Build consistency at home and school
Weeks 7-8: Transition
- Plan for aftercare and continued progress
- Solidify routines and supports
- Celebrate progress and goals
