How Virtual Teen IOP Works (Week by Week)

Editor’s note: Families often want a roadmap. This is the high-level flow we use to keep teens engaged and moving forward.

The structure

Kin’s virtual teen IOP runs 8 weeks, 3 days per week, 3 hours per day after school (typically 4-7 PM). Teens are in small groups of 6-8 peers, with CBT and DBT skills, plus weekly individual therapy.

Weeks 1-2: Foundation

  • Intake and goal setting
  • Building comfort in a small peer group
  • Learning core coping skills

Weeks 3-4: Skill building

  • Practice CBT and DBT tools in real situations
  • Identify triggers and patterns
  • Strengthen peer support

Weeks 5-6: Applying skills

  • Use skills in the moments that matter
  • Increase family communication and accountability
  • Build consistency at home and school

Weeks 7-8: Transition

  • Plan for aftercare and continued progress
  • Solidify routines and supports
  • Celebrate progress and goals
